I pay approx. $150/month for alll expenses including: electricity, water, phone, internet(with RACSA the local provider), Direct TV(satellite dish and reciever are included with the price of the house!). There are no gas lines in CR, but I do have a gas stove hooked up with a smalll gas cyllinder and there is also a wood burning stove ion the middle of the house!(incl). House insurance(fire,etc) with local provider(INS) is very cheap, only $100/year. I pay no property or territorial taxes at present since the the local Municipality of Paraiso does not have a 'Regulating Plan' for this districy yet. I assume that it will be set up within the next 3-5 years though. At the same time the property is registered as a Sociedad Anonima(or INC.), and as such I do not pay taxes(at present there is a legal loophole that allows this in CR) on the corporation. I would sell the house along with the corporation, so transfer tax is also minimal!

Distance from San Jose is 26 miles due East going thru Cartago, Paraiso and along the old road to Turrialba you get off at the town of Birrisito(Cartago province).

Yes, you can bring your dogs into CR, but make sure you call the nearest CR Consulate or Emabassy in the US before you come to get all the papers in order in advance(such as official transcripts, Vet & vaccination records/papers that must be translated into Spanish and such.

An average used 4 X 4 (Isuzu Rodeo '98) will cost you here appprox.$10,000US.
