Costa Rica South Guanacaste

Costa Rica South Guanacaste Region runs from below Tamarindo down to the Nicoya Peninsula. The region consists of smaller, quieter towns than Northern Guanacaste. The main attractions in the region are Nosara, Samara, and Islita. There are also a couple of community tourism projects in this area, the Cerro Escondido Lodge and the Monte Alto Lodge. This region has less tourist traffic, but you can find smaller beach villages with boutique hotels, local restaurants, and beautiful scenery. Nosara and Samara are home to some of the better surfing spots in the country, while Islita is home to Hotel Punta Islita a beautiful, high-end, boutique resort. This area is not the easiest to travel to, but it is worth the trip. The region boasts beautiful beaches, mangrove swamps that are prefect for birding and kayaking, and some amazing hotels. You can access the area by flying into the local airports in Islita, Nosara, and Samara or you can take the ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya and travel by car to these small beach towns.

This region enjoys hot temperatures throughout the year with little if any rain through the months of December - March. You will see more rain in the September ? November, but not as much as other regions.
