The Costa Rica North Caribbean Region runs from the highlands near Guapiles down to the lowland jungles along the coast. This region offers a variety of activities, destinations, and cultures. You will find great white water rafting and kayaking on the Pacuare River and you can spend time kayaking through the canals of the Tortuguero National Park. The Tortugueo has gained popularity due to the Green Sea Turtle that nest there. You can fly from San Jose to Tortuguero or you can go by boat up the river from the nearby town of Limon. This is a long journey but you can often see a lot of wildlife along the way. The Pacaure River is the other main tourism attraction to this area. The Pacuare River is one of the best white water rivers in the world and definitely one of the most scenic. You can spend two days rafting the river and spend the night at the Pacaure Lodge deep in the jungle.

Limon is the major town in this region. The town does not offer all that much in terms of attractions for visitors. Most people pass through the town on the way to the small villages of the South Caribbean.

This area enjoys yearly temperatures in the high 80s Fahrenheit (30 Celsius). You can expect to have rain in the afternoons, with the rainy season between November and January. The best time to visit is during the months of August ? October, when other regions have their rainy seasons.
